Timecachers is a high-tech adventure story that transports present-day characters to the Cherokee Indian Removal of 1838. Not intended as a fast-paced thriller, the story is visually descriptive and historically detailed. It was written with a young audience in mind, although it will appeal to anyone who wishes to learn more about Cherokee culture and the Trail of Tears. The title "Timecachers" is a reference to the game of geocaching noted by the characters.
Adam Hill, is the owner-engineer of Overhill Engineering, an independent product testing company. He and his three employees, Alice Delvecci, Tom Woody, and wisecracking Salvador Lolliman, have accepted a contract to test a revolutionary navigation device--a handheld unit similar to a GPS receiver that can provide extremely precise navigational information without the need of a supporting satellite system. During field testing in the remote wilderness of northwest Georgia, they follow the device to a tiny, hidden valley where they meet John Carter, a Cherokee Indian who informs them they are now in 1838. Their initial shock and disbelief diminishes as they encounter indisputable evidence that they truly have been transported to the nineteenth century.
The Timecachers are introduced to several Cherokee families and individuals who, other than exhibiting remarkably little astonishment at meeting travelers from another time, are considerably more similar to themselves than they had imagined. The Cherokee people of 1838 are highly intelligent, eloquent, sincere, and exceedingly sociable people, in contrast to the typical Hollywood portrayal of them.
The Timecachers are introduced to the Tsalagi Nation, a well-organized community of cultured, spiritual people who are frustrated by the relentless encroachment of white settlers on their lands and the broken promises of the U.S. government. Despite the Cherokees attempts to accommodate the settler's lust for their land and adapt their own government and social structure to be more acceptable to the whites, the state of Georgia portrays them as feckless, uncivilized savages and insists on the complete removal of all Native Americans from its borders. The state is prepared to enforce those demands forcibly with its militia, backed by the immense power of federal armed forces, leaving the Cherokee little choice but to leave behind their beloved ancestral homeland. As the story progresses, the team must put aside the shock of time-travel to deal with the dangerous situation they now face, the Cherokee roundup and the beginning of the Trail of Tears.

I was immensely caught-up in this writers tale of a group of time travelers! I found the historical facts fascinating! So much so that I plan on researching these moments in history more thoroughly. But what really resonated to me was the fact that our "modern civilization" has in fact lost many very important lessons from our ancestors. We work at our "industrialized" jobs daily in order to pay for the machinery that allows us time away from mundane chores to enable us more time to work at our jobs! Whereas our ancestors worked at life! Which included pride of accomplishment in performing, to the best of their ability, those same said mundane chores! The only criticism would be the repetitive nature of some historical facts but overall a very riveting, enjoyable read!

Great book. Action figure is a women with spunk!!!
This was an exciting book with great historical content and dynamic characters. definitely worth the price and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I wasn't sure if I would read all of it but did stick to it and I am glad I did. Sals character was abrasive to me initially but I found he grew on me as I read. Books based on history were always my favorite way to read and learn.
I've always been interested in time travel so when I saw this book, I downloaded it. I have to admit that I was a bit wary from some of the more critical reviews but not only did I get into the characters who brought their 21st century dialogue into a 19th century world, I was blessed to feel like I was part of the Trail of Tears. This topic wasn't covered during my school years (or maybe I slept through it) so it was if I was living it with the characters.

My only disappointment was that I wanted more. I hope that Mr. Petrucci will consider writing a sequel to this book. I would love to see it evolve into a series.
This was a very addicting book. The first couple of chapters are full of intriguing math and science, the story then opens up and I hated to put it down. I can't wait to read another book from this author
Well written. I really enjoyed the historical aspects of this book. I have now read the next book and enjoyed it just as much as this one.
This is a big book, written on a 9th grade reading level, I personally absolutly love a good historical novel, a friend of mine reccomended this book to me. I'm very glad he did!
The beginning of the book was dry, but I plowed throught it and I'm glad I did. After the characters were introduced throughout the first few chapters, it began to become increasingly more interesting. Especially for the heady, technichal, geeky, outdoorsy and the history lover types of people.
The story goes over the period and lives of several Cherokee families at the beginning of the Trail of tears. The book can be graphic at times, and I would not recommend for younger readers, but is very satisfying read.
Overall, I give this book a 5/5 stars! I am on my way to order the next book in the series.
