The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes begins with a condensed retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, related through the voice of Sherlock Holmes. Subsequent sequels include exhilarating new adventures, characters, and ideas, carrying the reader through this book I, leading to book II and with book III promising an ever-expanding new series based on the classic.
The author consulted the original French as well as the oldest English translations of The Count of Monte Cristo, yet the style of the retelling, in the distinctive voice of Sherlock Holmes, constitutes a new work. Books II and III, soon to follow, are wholly original sequels although they include characters from the original classic.
The author of The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes enjoyed the 2003 translation by Robin Buss of the The Count of Monte Cristo, which helped to inspire both this work and the first sequel in this series, The Sultan of Monte Cristo. The (2003) unabridged translation by Buss, however, is indispensable to fully appreciate the original story.
Those who have already had the pleasure of reading The Sultan of Monte Cristo will certainly appreciate the unique way in which the Holy Ghost Writer has expanded the original story without the help of anyone (except perhaps from the ghost of Dumas himself).
While The Sultan of Monte Cristo has been enjoyed by thousands as a stand-alone work, this work is an even easier read of the original classic, as it has a condensed version of the original story, uniquely retold in the voice of Sherlock Holmes.
This edition does not include book II (Sultan of Monte Cristo) or III (Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo) yet it does include a sneak preview of Book II.

As an avid fan of Author Conan Doyle and a rather recent admirer of Holy Ghost Writer, my delight in running across “The Count Of Monte Cristo as Retold By Sherlock Holmes” knows no bounds. Fast paced and easily read, this is an updated version of a classic tale that is accessible to modern readers along with those more familiar with the original works. While this novel is actually a retelling of the Classic tale by Alexandre Dumas, it is more than a mere translation – but an expansion of the previous epic. Told through the voice of our favorite London Detective, Sherlock Holmes, this novel; the beginning of a series that has grown as popular as the Holy Ghost writer him/herself. This novel serves as a wonderful standalone tale, though reading it with Book II and Book III in mind, either before OR after, enriches this classic and offers an amazing expansion on stories one would think time would have sealed away. The imagination required to create such works - and create them with detail and devotion to the voices of both Doyle and Dumas is astounding and speaks highly of the talent of HGW.
A great addition to any library. I would recommend this to fans of Sherlock Holmes, both the classic tales and the newer adventures (print and TV) and those familiar with “The Count of Monte Cristo.”

The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes edition by Holy Ghost Writer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
After years of pondering about this literary classic I finally had the pleasure to read this masterpiece and the sheer idea of Sherlock Holmes retelling this classic made this book an irresistible buy.
Edmond Dantes journey spawns intertwined tales of egotism, romance, treachery, and loyalty with the flow of the pages gradually revealing the true inner nature of unforgettable characters.
This powerful story of revenge swept me away on several occasions with emotions for characters that I ended up reading through cascading tears.
This version was so compelling that I read the original after this one and I believe this book to be more enticing & a lighter enjoyable read. I revel in the idea of reading more of Holy Ghost Writers’ infusions and highly recommend this book to inspire ones love for literature.
This story combines two of my favorite fictional characters of all time Sherlock Holmes and the Count of Monte Cristo. While aimed at fans of both of these characters and their stories, I think the author did a great job of introducing them so that even a reader unfamiliar with them will have no trouble following along.
The books starts with a short introduction of the tale of the Count of Monte Cristo, but quickly shifts into an exciting adventure featuring this multi-faceted character. Only this time, it is told by the witty Sherlock Holmes. This first installment in the series tells the story of the young sailor Edmond Dantes, whose whole life is turned upside down when he finds himself fighting to escape a treason charge and get his hands on a pile of secret treasure that will help him reinvent himself.
In my opinion, the style and structure follows the original works by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Alexandre Dumas very faithfully. I read this book in just three days, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment!
The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes is a fun adventure into this classic story as told by a classic character.
Author Holy Ghost Writer excels in exhibiting the voices of Sherlock Holmes and Watson as they banter their way through a re-telling of The Count of Monte Cristo from the perspective of Holmes and his personal knowledge of Dantes. Holy Ghost Writer has breathed new life into this story opening it up to a new generation. The story keeps very close to the original story with this fun new aspect of interjecting Holmes as the narrator. Holy Ghost Writer has an excellent grasp on the love, betrayal, adventure and revenge that captivates us in the original story.
Anyone who has previously enjoyed Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo is sure to enjoy this rendering. In addition, this re-telling of The Count of Monte Cristo would be an excellent gift to inspire new readers to the classics.
I am excited to read the subsequent books in this series and see where Holy Ghost Writer takes these classic characters next. I highly recommend it!
I've enjoyed Holy Ghost Writers creative renditions of beloved classics. They are wonderfully executed, and it is obvious the author not only does his research, but is very passionate about these stories.
While this book doesn't have an overwhelming amount of Sherlock , it is to be expected. In the intro it is explained in Sherlock's own words that this is the setup by retelling the original story by his friend(the author of the original book).
I'm not quite sure why some of the other reviewers seemed to have missed that point. Perhaps they skipped the important introduction that explained what is going on?
I felt the parts of Sherlock and Watson were spot on and accurate to their original form and mannerisms.
The Count of Monte Cristo is a condensed version, so it is a much easier read than the original work. HGW has done a great job with the modern retelling. Yes words are missing, as some reviewers pointed out, but how else do you condense and retell a story?
I highly recommend this, but please know what to expect, and always read the introductions to books. I have found that so many readers skip the front matter, and they are the people that usually have silly issues with not understanding books.
I do look forward to the follow up books, and hope to see more of Sherlock and Watson. But that has more to do with my love of Sherlock's personality and behavior.
