Melting Stones Circle Reforged Tamora Pierce Grace Kelly Books
I loved the first series and the beginning of the second when I was in high school. So far into the Circle Reforged, I'm still intrigued. Melting Stones is a clever book that does fit the others. However, I must admit I found it the weakest of the books. It's written in first person, so it is stylistically different from the others. The main four mages are also only referred to and are not actually present in the story. I love Rosethorn and am liking Evvy more and more, but I miss the others. Evvy develops more as a character, though I feel more could have happened if the book were not in first person. She remains my favorite of the apprentices. The plot is enjoyable.Of course, to say that the book could have been better and isn't as good as the others does not mean it is not a fun book on its own. Just, you might not want to go in expecting Street Magic, because you'll be disappointed. Try to approach it with the understanding that it is written in a different style and that Evvy is very different from any of the original four.

Melting Stones Circle Reforged Tamora Pierce Grace Kelly Books Reviews
great
Melting Stones worked perfectly in the Magic Circle series. Even though it is in a completely different medium, audio, never once did I go, "well this just doesn't feel right." More than that the voice actors were audible and the different characters were discernible. What some people might not know is that before she wrote novels, Tammy did write radio shows, which no doubt accounts for how natural everything felt. I can't wait to listen to Street Magic with this cast.
I liked it.
Not my favorite of Tamora Pierce's books, but a good one. I like her other books more, but this fills in details and more story. I always want more of the story from her books so this is good.
although my copy sort of looked like someone stole it from a library.
With so-called 'adult' fiction getting more unreadably coarse by the year, I have recently drifted into teen fiction more and more, stealing Tamora Pierce's books off my daughter's shelf. They predate the gore-and-vampire craze, are almost like historical fiction, clean, fun, and well written, too--great entertainment for an afternoon on the couch in front of the fireplace. This is as fun as her more series-oriented books, being in some sort a sequel, and I hope she keeps writing more.
Melting Stones was a surprise... it was from the point of view of Briar's first student, which I had not expected, assuming it was a continuation tale about one of the original young mages. However,I liked it very much!
Melting Stones is the third book in The Circle Reforged series by Tamora Pierce and follows Evvy and Rosethorn on their journey to the Battle Islands to fight a volcano.
Evvy doesn't like people and she doesn't see the need to help them when they're probably going to hurt you in the end. Rosethorn says she is at the crossroads between becoming a destroyer or a builder. Luvo, her heart-of-a-mountain friend, wants her to save herself, and if she can, the other meat-creatures.
But what will Evvy pick? When push comes to shove, will she risk her own life to save the ungrateful and stubborn people of the battle islands, or will she leave them to their volcanic fate?
This book takes place after the conclusion of The Circle Opens quartet. In this novel, Evvy, Luvo, and Rosethorn travel to an island where plants and trees have suddenly start to die, and ponds have become acidic and poisoned. (In the meantime, and in another book, Sandry, Tris, Daja, and Briar are on their own adventure in The Will of the Empress.) Evvy, a student stone mage at Winding Circle, is accompanying Rosethorn as a consequence of an altercation with boys who were teasing animals. She and Luvo (a stone Heart of the Mountain) are not sure what they will have to do, but the mages soon discover that the dying plants are the result of volcanic vents and that the entire island is about to be blown to bits in a new eruption. Evvy explores the magma chamber under the current mountain and discovers new and strange beings who are driven to get out, to change.
This is a wonderful novel Evvy and Luvo emerge strongly as characters, and the plot is quite intense--hard to put down.
